Postgraduate Studies in TheologyETF offers two separate programmes of postgraduate study in Theology. Besides the full MTh programme, we offer a Postgraduate Certificate programme, which can be completed in one year. The M.Th. programme God's People in God's World explores the nature of Christian identity and vocation, whether in society or in the church. This two-year programme includes lectures, tutorials and seminars, for a total of 120 ECTS. It can also be taken on a part-time basis over four years. Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in theology or religious studies, with a grade point average of 3.5 (out of 5, where 5 is the highest). Those with a degree in another discipline will usually be required to complete a one-year Post-Graduate Certificate Programme before enrolling in the M.Th. programme. Since courses are taught and assignments written in English, students are expected to have a TOEFL score of 550 or equivalent. The first year consists of a core curriculum of five courses, including Biblical Theology, History of Christian Doctrine, and Systematic Theology. Each course runs for approximately six weeks and includes two weekends (Friday evenings and Saturdays) of seminar-style teaching. Participation in these seminars is compulsory. Upon completion of the core curriculum, the student may choose from a menu of specialised courses, which in different ways continue the themes of Christian identity and mission. This usually involves guided independent study supervised by a qualified professor, sometimes supplemented by tutorials or small group seminars at ETF. The student then writes a dissertation of about 20,000 words exploring a specific area of interest and building on the knowledge and skills acquired in the course.
