Doctoral Programme

This is a multi-year, research-oriented degree that builds on an earned master's degree in some discipline of theology. It is intended for those who seek to engage in intensive and original research in a specific area of theology. ETF is particularly committed to advanced training which serves the church and society in the post-communist world.

An applicant must hold a masters degree in theology with a grade point average of 4 (out of 5, with 5 being the highest) and must be fluent in English, with a TOEFL score of 550 or equivalent. Students are required to be in residence at ETF for two weeks per year, normally the first week of each semester. In addition to this, they are required to attend lectures and seminars and to meet with supervisors at least once per semester. The programme is normally completed in three calendar years, but the student is permitted to take up to six years.
